Nature doesn’t make propellers
The ocean is the most challenging place on Earth to operate, and the least understood.
The machines we send beneath the surface are loud, power-hungry, and disruptive, driven by propellers, a nineteenth-century answer to a problem nature solved millions of years ago. Acoustic signature gives them away and their limited endurance keeps them close to home.
And most of the ocean stays unsensed.
So we stopped copying machines,
and took inspiration from nature.
A fish doesn’t fight the water, it works with it.
RayDrive moves the same way: fins, not propellers. The result is a zero signature platform that travels further on less power, and lasts longer, because nothing is being forced against the physics of the medium.
One platform, three layers:
the body, the brain, and the network.
RayDrive - Propulsion - The Body
Bio-inspired, fin-driven propulsion built for the toughest missions in the world.
Single-user deployable and long-range, it delivers a low acoustic signature and high efficiency that propellers physically can't match, and lasts longer for it.
NelsonOS - Autonomy - The Brain
Our proprietary underwater autonomy system, designed for RayDrive and built to power the next generation of UUVs, USVs, and UAVs.
It lets platforms navigate, decide, and complete missions unsupervised, where remote control is impractical or impossible.
RayNet - The Network
Our data-first ocean intelligence network. Every deployed platform becomes a sensing node, opening up information about the underwater world that isn't accessible today and building a living, continuously updated picture of an ever changing ocean.
Built for the missions that matter most
The same quiet, capable, enduring
platform serves three worlds at once.
Defence
Low-signature, long-endurance autonomy for operations in contested and denied water.
Environment
Persistent, low-impact sensing for a living dataset of an ever changing ocean.
Industry
Inspection, survey, and monitoring at lower cost
and lighter footprint.
A UK sovereign robotics company closing the gap between the living world
and machines
Ray Systems was founded on a simple principle: nature has already engineered the best solutions to the hardest problems. We build the propulsion, the autonomy, and the data network that let machines operate in the ocean as fluently as the creatures that live in it.
